In my Absolut paintings and constructions I sought to juxtapose ancient and contemporary symbols of Scandinavian popular culture. Standing proudly atop the bottle of Absolut Vodka, Thor's power is exemplified by the classical symbols of his chariot pulled by two mighty goats and the lightning bolt and hammer Mjølner he wields as well as the bottle of Absolut itself. Thus I imply he derives his strength from both. The pairing of a well-known piece of classical mythology with an artifact of our modern world bridges past and present seamlessly, and brings to mind questions of how we will remember symbols of our present culture as myth in our future.
